Former foes from LSU and South Carolina, Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso became the unlikeliest teammates when both were picked by the Chicago Sky in the 2024 WNBA Draft. After playing into their old feud on social media for a week, the team finally released the video of their first ever interaction as teammates, and it did not disappoint.
Reese and Cardoso: rivals reunited
“Why the hell it take y’all this long to release this?!” screamed a Chicago Sky fans in the comments of the video on Instagram.
“The Sky social manager told someone to save this one so they can break our souls a week later,” another popular response joked.
Prior to the draft, the overriding memory most fans had of Reese and Cardoso was their battles in the paint while 2023 NCAA champion LSU and 2024 NCAA champion South Carolina wrestled for SEC supremacy.
Most notably, their last face-off in 2024 was marred by a play where the Bayou Barbie pulled Cardoso’s hair and got away with it.
“practice ought to be fun,” the Chicago Sky wrote sarcastically on Instagram the day after the draft, along with a photo of them clashing in the SEC Championship game a few weeks ago.
Angel Reese’s first words to Kamilla Cardoso
Angel did not keep that same energy on draft night, and Sky fans love her for it. She warmly embraced the 6-foot-7 Brazilian, chosen four picks ahead of her, with a peaceful message: “finally teammates.”
With Cardoso appearing to be a little overwhelmed by the spotlight and the cameras, Reese showed what made her a beloved teammate in Baltimore and Baton Rouge by checking in on Kamilla to see if she was okay.
A Sky fan summed it up in an Instagram comment, writing: “This moment was everything! Can’t wait to cheer them both on.”
