Tyrese Haliburton revealed that his brother faced racial abuse while attending Game 1 of the NBA Playoff series between the Indiana Pacers and the Milwaukee Bucks.
Haliburton, a key player for the Pacers, shared this troubling incident with reporters following his team’s victory over the Bucks on Tuesday, which tied the series at 1-1.
According to him, his younger brother was subjected to a racial slur while watching the game at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee.
Expressing concern and emphasizing the importance of addressing such issues, Haliburton stated that it was crucial for his family to discuss the incident. He highlighted the discomfort it caused within his family and praised his brother’s handling of the situation.
In response to Haliburton’s remarks, the Bucks provided a statement through a spokesman, indicating that an incident was reported involving guests who were not in their assigned seats during Sunday’s game.
According to their account, one individual alleged that a derogatory term was directed at them, but the accused person denied it. The situation was addressed by arena staff, and the group relocated to their correct seats without further escalation.
The Bucks emphasized their commitment to maintaining a safe and inclusive environment for fans and reiterated their dedication to ensuring a secure experience for everyone attending their games.
Despite the off-court incident, Haliburton contributed 12 points to the Pacers’ victory on Tuesday. The series is now tied at 1-1, with the next game scheduled for Friday in Indiana.
