Coachella weekend one is coming up, and it’s potentially going to be a big one for Taylor Swift fans — even though she’s not actually on the roster to perform. But as always, leave it to eagle-eyed Swifties to speculate and pontificate on a potential appearance from the “Anti-Hero” singer. Ahead, we’re breaking down the rumors and speculating on why and how Taylor Swift might surprise festival goers this April.
How the Rumors Started
Rumors of Swift making a surprise appearance began circling this week as Coachella started to draw closer — which takes place on April 12-14 and 19-21 — due to a small handful of her collaborators being slated to perform. Lana Del Rey, Swift’s frequent producer and Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff, and Eras Tour opener Sabrina Carpenter are all slated to take the stage this weekend, giving her three chances to make a surprise appearance and turn Coachella into Taychella this year. If it happens, this would be Swift’s second time at the festival, which she last attended in 2016.

Why Fans Think Taylor Swift Might Perform at Coachella
Del Rey and Swift have at least one track they can perform together — Midnights cut, “Snow on the Beach.” While Antonoff and Carpenter do not feature on tracks with the mega pop star, Swift has been a vocal supporter of their music and has given each of them a platform to shine. Should Swift join either three on stage for Coachella this weekend or the next, it’s also great publicity ahead of the release of her next album, The Tortured Poets Department, which arrives on April 19.
Her Date Night in L.A. Might Be a Hint
Sources haven’t let anything too concrete slip about a performance, but Swift is reportedly planning to make an appearance, even if she doesn’t sing. She and boyfriend Travis Kelce were spotted having a date night on April 10 in Los Angeles before the festival, and a source told Us Weekly on April 3 that they plan to go to Coachella because “they both want to see Lana Del Rey and [Jack Antonoff’s band] Bleachers.” Us added that Swift and Kelce will reportedly be “renting a house in the area” for one of the two festival weekends.

Swifties will need to hang tight until weekend one of the festival hits, but in the great words of one fan, “I would sacrifice my firstborn to see what Travis Kelce would come up with for a my-gf-Taylor-Swift-is-performing-at-Coachella Coachella fit.”
