Nichols had a divisive take on Clark, saying she was both the “most influential” college basketball player, yet not the GOAT of the sport.
“She is not the greatest player of all time in women’s college basketball history to me,” Nichols said.
“She is the most influential player of all-time in women’s college basketball.”
Nichols said that the WNBA will get a huge lift from the addition of Clark when she gets drafted.
“She is one of the greats,” Nichols said.
“The WNBA is going to get a lift. People will watch women’s sports.”
A lot of people have recently spoken out against Clark, specifically legends in the WNBA.
Breanna Stewart and Dianna Taurasi have both attempted to diminish the accomplishments of Clark.
Stewart said that Clark can’t be considered one of the greats simply because she never won a championship.
“You’re gonna look 10 years back and you’re gonna see all the records she’s broken and the points and stuff like that,” Stewart said.

“But anybody knows your goal when you play college basketball is to win a national championship. So, you need one.”
Taurasi said she will look much worse going into the WNBA because she is used to playing against younger opponents.
“Reality is coming,” she said.
“You look superhuman playing against some 18-year-olds but you’re going to come play with some grown women that have been playing professional basketball for a long time.
“There is gonna be a transition period where you’re going to have to give yourself some grace as a rookie.”
Despite all of the recent claims against Clark, South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley only had good things to say about her opponent after defeating Iowa.
“I want to personally thank Caitlin Clark for lifting up our sport,” Staley said.
“She carried a heavy load for our sport and it’s just not going to stop here on the collegiate tour, but when she is the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft, she’s going to lift up that league up as well.
“Caitlin Clark, if you’re out there, you are one of the GOATs of our game and we appreciate you.”
