Former NBA player Nate Robinson was asked about Doc Rivers during a recent OG’s Show episode. Robinson told a story about Rivers during the interview. The former NBA player shared a story on the show about how his head coach caused him to lose quite a bit of money. Doc Rivers coached Robinson throughout his 2010–11 season with the Boston Celtics.
“I still have a little beef with Doc. I don’t even want to tell y’all the story because it’s going to make y’all not even like that man anymore. I had in my contract that I would make 2 million dollars if I played a certain amount of games. Doc Rivers gives me a DNP. The game where I needed one more game to get $1.5 million. The absolute **** in me wanted to go sub in and just say **** just sub. Bro, I think he did that on purpose, bro. Why would he give me a DNP? I am not hurt. I am ready to go.” Nate Robinson said this during the interview on the OG’s show.
Nate Robinson still has hard feelings toward Doc Rivers
The player was expected to receive an additional bonus if he played in a certain number of games, but he could not do so due to Rivers’ benching. For this reason, the player holds a grudge against the Bucks’ coach.
However, Robinson says that Milwaukee fans are unconcerned about Rivers’ previous performance. The Bucks have had a rough stretch of games, including four consecutive losses, but have recently won against the Boston Celtics and the Orlando Magic.
Despite this, there are still doubts about the team’s future and Rivers’ position as head coach. Robinson averaged 9.3 points, 2.0 assists, and 2.3 rebounds per game throughout his career, but this was not enough to secure him a lucrative NBA contract.
He could have used the extra money that his head coach denied him, but as a role player, he couldn’t hold himself accountable for that. Therefore, it’s understandable that the athlete still harbors hard feelings towards Doc Rivers.
