A year ago Jon Bon Jovi received the devastating news that teenage daughter Stephanie Bongiovi had overdosed on heroin in her college dorm room.

But thankfully the frightening episode seems firmly behind the 20-year-old as she was seen looking happy and healthy on Tuesday evening as she joined her rock star father and the rest of her family in London.

Jon, 51, his wife Dorothea, 51, Stephanie and brothers Jacob, 10, and Romeo, eight were among the star guests at Prince William’s Winter Whites Gala in aid of the Centrepoint charity.

The Bon Jovi frontman performed at the charitable event at Kensington Palace, but  made the night a family affair as he brought his children and wife of 24 years along to the once in a lifetime affair.

Stephanie looked elegant in a stunning white gown with a black halterneck, which perfectly coordinated with the family’s monochrome look.

She made the most of the criss-cross halter neck design by sweeping her long locks to one side, accessorising with a pair of statement drop earrings and a black evening bag.

The former liberal arts student flashed a big smile as she stood next to her 51-year-old father for a group shot before playfully stepping out to strike a pose on her own.

Jon’s family did him proud with Stephanie’s younger brothers Jacob Hurley, 10, and eight-year-old Romeo Jon looking dapper in tuxedos while Dorothea was stunning in a simple black off the shoulder dress.

Later on in the evening Stephanie was spotted with her dad as the pair chatted to fellow performer Taylor Swift, who also posed for a picture with a starstruck Jacob and Romeo.

Jon and Taylor also teamed up for a rendition of Bon Jovi smash hit Livin’ On A Prayer, alongside Prince William.

The fun evening comes almost exactly a year since Stephanie was found unresponsive in her dorm room at New York’s Hamilton College – a well respected, $55,000-a-year liberal arts institution in Kirkland.

Jon recalled earlier this year how his daughter phoned him from hospital to explain the shocking situation.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, he said: ‘It was horrible, a horrible moment. It was my worst moment as a father.

‘The first thing she said, I’m all right but then she said this is what happened. You wake up, you shake it off and put your shoes on and say OK, I am on the way home.’

Police were called to Stephanie’s dorm room after she had been found unconscious with a small amount of heroin.

The unfortunate circumstance could have been much worse for Stephanie when police brought forward charges against her and companion Ian Grant for drug possession.

However, the charges were dropped due to local law preventing people who have had a drugs overdose from being prosecuted.

While the Keep The Faith singer said his daughter was very lucky, he stressed the issue is more common than people think.

‘I feel it was a terrible tragic lesson of life but I thank God every day because she is whole. It happened and it has gone.

‘I know personally people whose sons and daughters, where it was a lot, lot worse. That could have been Stephanie.’
