Shaquille O’Neal and Angel Reese

Shaquille O’Neal, the NBA Legend and Hall of Famer has played under several great coaches. One of his mentors was the great Phil Jackson. O’Neal was once the best basketball player in the world and also the most dominant force ever known in the paint. The giant used to put his defenders to work, using his size as an advantage over them.

Behind a great player comes a coach who pushes his athletes to become better. As much as players are familiar with their own game, the coaches never fail to push them even further. Angel Reese, the former national champion was coached by the longtime coach, Kim Mulkey. Shaq recently gave his advice to Reese on national television.

Me and Chuck, we go through this a lot. A lot of times, when we critic these guys, you know these youngsters, and these females, they don't understand that all the stuff that they get ready to go through, we are the masters of that... When you're the best player, and you play for a great coach like Kim Mulkey, they stayn on you. Phil Jackson stayed on me. Pat Riley stayed on me... All the coaches I played for stayed on me because when you're the best player, you're expected to do everything. So, I just told her, I said listen, I know your coach is a little hard on you, but you have to accept it, cause you're the best player.

Shaquille O’Neal said in an interview with CNN

The LSU Tigers fell to their rivals, the Hawkeyes this year. On a positive note, Reese, who is one of the top prospects of the 2024 WNBA Draft did get some great advice from Shaquille O’Neal. Mulkey is an extremely passionate coach and for her to be hard on her star player, is just another way to push her to become even better.

Shaquille O’Neal publicly defended Angel Reese for her trash-talking

Following her championship win last year, Reese received a lot of hate for her trash-talking during the Finale. However, the former LSU Tiger came to the rescue, as he defended the future WNBA player. O’Neal claimed that Reese could talk all she wanted to since she was the newly crowned champion. Not only that, but the Hall of Famer has also been very supportive of the young athlete in all aspects.

When you're a Champion, you're allowed to.

Shaquille O’Neal said in an interview with PEOPLE

As a Tiger, O’Neal used to put up serious numbers as he became one of the top alumni of the university. ‘The Diesel’ still has love for his alma mater, and coming in to save Reese from the negativity following her championship was just his way of showing support to the youngster as well as loyalty to his alma mater.

Looking at Reese’s potential, the 21-year-old has a long road ahead, as it will be interesting to see her finally make it to the WNBA hardwood. Projected as a top-ten pick in this year’s draft, it will be interesting to see where Reese lands. The Draft is scheduled on April 15th and the season will tip-off on the 15th of May.
