“My grandmother was a seamstress. My grandparents didn’t have enough money; they couldn’t afford my mom’s tuition.

So my grandmother sewed clothes for priests and nuns and made uniforms for kids in exchange for my mom’s education.

Then she passed this gift on to my mom and taught her how to sew. When we started in Destiny’s Child, high-end recording labels didn’t really want to dress black curvy girls.

And we couldn’t afford the designer dresses and costumes. My mom was reshaping from all the displays in New York.

But like my grandmother, she used her and creativity to bring their children’s dreams to life. My mom and my uncle, Johnny, designed all our first outfits and made each product by hand, individually sewing hundreds of crystals and pearls, putting passion and love into every tiny detail.

I want to send thanks to my mother and my grandparents. Thank you for showing me that presence is much more than the clothes you wear and your outer beauty. Thank you for showing me that ‘No!’ is never a final answer.

Thank you for showing me how to take risks, work hard, and live life on my own terms, regardless of gender. ” Beyoncé
