(3)VIDEO: Ryan Reynolds Shares EMOTIONAL Tribute to Late ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Production Designer | E! News

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, both actors known for their roles as Deadpool and Wolverine respectively, are paying tribute to a key member of their cinematic family, Ray Chan, who has passed away at the age of 56. Ray was renowned for his work as an art director in the production department for films such as Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and the upcoming Deadpool and Wolverine movie.

In a statement shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) on April 26th, Ryan expressed, “Words are pretty inadequate in comparison to this loss.” He continued, “The last time I saw Ray was exactly 2 weeks ago. One of the last things I said to him was that he makes magic and there’s nobody on earth like him. Generally, he and I gave each other a lot of good-natured ribbing. Of all the final things you could say to someone, ‘you’re a door’ — that’s a little scrap of consolation I’ll hang on to forever.”

Hugh also remembered Ray on his Instagram stories, writing, “There was not a day shooting when I didn’t marvel at what he created. He created magic. There was this look in his eyes, the look of a man who loved his craft.” He continued, “We did a bit more shooting 2 weeks ago, and for that, I will be forever grateful. It not only gave us the opportunity to fine-tune our film but it gave us the bonus of time with Ray, time for him to finish the job he loved so much.”

Marvel Studios confirmed Ray’s death in a statement on April 24th. Ray was credited for helping imagine and design the Marvel Cinematic Universe after joining the studio on Thor: The Dark World in 2013. His Marvel credits include Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Ant-Man and the Wasp, the last three Avengers films, and Deadpool and Wolverine starring Ryan and Hugh, slated to hit theaters on July 26th next.
